Protein to go – on the go – grab and go.  Here are some of my favorites:

  • Cheese sticks
  • sliced lean ham, turkey or chicken
  • hardboiled eggs
  • handful of nuts
  • fresh or dried fruit
  • rice cakes

Remember to pre-package portions for best results and to stay true to the grab and go concept.  Have fun on the run and don’t forget to walk the dog!

Be prepared

This post was in development before I started my new job. It is not just a job it is a FULL TIME job! Yikes!!!!  Now that I am out of the house for most of the day, being prepared has taken on a whole new meaning.  Prior to starting this new job, being prepared meant having the right ingredients on-hand to prepare healthy meals.  Now it means having the right ingredients available to create  grab and go meals.  Not so fast Ms. Quiet Diet!!!!

Some days grab and go consists of a single banana.  And not just any banana.  The one that my daughters rejected because it has spots on it!  Yep, thats the one.

Be prepared survival guide:

Do your best to shop and prepare meals ahead of time

Today’s grocery stores are ready for you with many fresh, healthy pre-packaged selections.

Remember to choose well. It is possible in all environments.

Last weeks smart choices:

Tuesday at Subway:  6 inch whole wheat turkey, no cheese, vegetables, vinegar and mustard. Toss top slice of bread and enjoyed with a knife and fork.

Thursday at Chipolte:  salad with chicken, lettuce, salsa, black beans.  Left out cheese and guacamole.

We will get to how to fit in exercise next week!

Quiet Diet Popcorn

The best popcorn is made at home on the stove top.  Period.  I use the Whirley-pop popcorn maker. About $25.00 available at Target, Amazon, and Wabash Valley Farms. It makes delicious popcorn that is healthy and satisfying. One tsp canola oil, 1/2 cup popcorn, and use the Whirley-pop for the best results.  Season with any of the new artisan salts that are available everywhere such as truffle, hickory smoked,  and malt vinegar.  I have recently become aware of gourmet dessert salts that may be fun to try.  Don’t forget to portion your popcorn.  It is easy to super size!

MIA

Missing In Action.  I quietly sidelined myself and fell off my posting routine.  I am ready once again to “feel the burn” as my fingers hit the keyboard.  So let’s jump right in.

I have been working with a trainer for the better part of a year.  I have now realized that if I do not schedule a trainer, I do not lift weights.  For many years I thought that if a trainer is required to get me to the gym then the following is true: lazy, not motivated, not really serious about exercise, no hope for me, and so on.  The same goes for cardio.  Lately, if I do not take a class cardio does not happen.  What I have learned is….so what?  If this is what it takes, let it be ok.  Enjoy your time at the gym however you get there.

The foundation of the Quiet Diet is to focus on choice and staying quiet. To remove complicated details such as counting points, calories, measuring, weighing and so on. It was equally important to remain quiet. In addition, I was not interested in salad dressed simply in vinegar or broccoli with a squeeze of lemon.  I remain focused on making good choices but not compromising flavor.

It is the choices over time that count.
